About the room

Twenty-four square metres on the ground floor, with French doors that open onto the tiled courtyard. Step-free from the front door, and the nearest room to breakfast.

The Courtyard rooms were the stables and the wash house when the house was built, and they have kept the thick walls and the deep window reveals. There are four of them, set around a small garden with a fountain, a panel of blue and white tiles from the 1780s and more ferns than anyone asked for.

Your French doors open to a shared flagstone terrace with a table and two chairs for each room. In the morning you can carry coffee out and sit in the courtyard before the house is up. In the evening the tiles hold the warmth of the day for an hour or two after the sun has gone.

The bed is a queen, 160 by 200 cm, with a dark oak headboard and a reading lamp on each side. There is a writing desk, an armchair in olive velvet, and a bathroom with a frosted glass door and a walk-in shower. Because the rooms are on the ground floor and the floors are level, this is the room we suggest to anyone who prefers to avoid stairs.

Look around

A 360 degree view you can drag, or turn with the arrow keys. A 360 view of a comparable room, shown here as an illustration.

What the 360 view shows

The bed

A queen bed with two reading lamps and a washed cotton cover in olive. The pillows are feather and fibre, and there is a firm spare pillow in the wardrobe.

The French doors

The doors open onto the courtyard. Close the voile for privacy and leave the shutters open, or close both and the room goes dark.

The bathroom

Behind the frosted glass door, a walk-in shower with a rain head, a deep basin and a heated towel rail.

The room at seven in the morning and seven in the evening

7 am

At seven the courtyard is empty and the fountain is the only sound. Marta lays the breakfast tables across the passage at half past seven, and the smell of coffee and warm bread reaches your doors a little before that.

7 pm

By seven the tiles are still warm and someone has lit the candle lanterns along the wall. The wine bar opens at six, so you can be at a table in the time it takes to put your shoes on.
